Former Clemson-ite Lee Brice Serenades National Champs Alabama

Paying off a bet never sounded so sweet on America’s Morning Show.

It was one of the chilliest days of winter so far in Nashville, but with a healthy cough and a chest full of congestion, former Clemson lineman, Lee Brice, appeared on America’s Morning Show to make good on a pre-NCAA Championship football game bet he made with the show's Chuck Wicks. The bet? While Chuck is a Florida Gators fan, his allegiance to the SEC had him siding with Alabama, so If Clemson lost the game to the Tide, Lee would perform “Sweet Home Alabama” live during the show.

Well, Roll Tide. Clemson proved a formidable foe for Alabama, and it was hardly a blowout, but the final score positioned the Tide above the Tigers at 45 to 40. It was a heckuva game.

And Lee didn’t forget about the bet, unfortunately, that cough and congestion were what remained of walking pneumonia that waylaid him over the holidays and prevented him from visiting the AMS studios sooner. And although it was so cold outside that his guitar had to physically warm up to stay in tune, Lee wanted to assure Crimson Tide fans that he was a man of his word.

So, wearing a NCAA Championship hat with Alabama’s bright red “A” emblazoned on the crown, Lee delivered a rendition of “Sweet Home Alabama” that made everyone within earshot a winner.

There’s always next year, Tigers!
