The Final Countdown for Scotty McCreery

As if it wasn't hard enough to be a country star, Scotty McCreery is trying to balance that with being a student at North Carolina State University.

The college freshman is currently juggling finals while he promotes his Christmas album, Christmas With Scotty McCreery, and begins writing and searching for songs for his next album. "I've been studying non-stop. But it was a lot tougher than I was anticipating going into it," Scotty tells Country Weekly. "When I was doing this in high school, balancing it all was nothing. But college was defintely a huge step. I've had to learn how to study again."

Yes, Scotty studies and goes to class and even takes notes in class, but the American Idol winner admits he's far from Joe College. "I'll never be the normal college kid," he says. It's not unusual for him to be approached by fans on campus who want an autograph, a photo or to just say hi, and he's happy to oblige. "They've been great to me the last year or two. . . . It's actually a pretty cool thing for me."

Scotty's last final is this week and then he heads home to Garner, N.C., for last-minute Christmas shopping and holiday festivities with his family.
