Exclusive First Listen: Chris Young Celebrates Heroes

The same week that Chris Young tallies his second week atop the Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with “The Man I Want to Be,” the smash title track to his current album—and amid the album’s ongoing success, Chris is offering fans an extra treat, paying tribute to a few of his country heroes with the release of Voices EP. The acoustic three-song digital collection will be available exclusively on the iTunes Store beginning Tuesday, May 25.

The Voices EP is now available on Chris Young - Voices - EP

Country Weekly is proud to offer fans an exclusive preview of the tracks, beginning today (May 20) with Chris' version of Keith Whitley’s “I’m Over You.” On May 21, fans can listen to Chris’ warm, distinctive baritone take on John Anderson’s “Swingin’” followed by his handling of Vern Gosdin’s Country Music Association Award-winning "Chiseled in Stone" on May 24.

In talking about the recordings, Chris says, “There’s a song on my current album called ‘Voices’—it’s my next single—and we decided to name this EP Voices, too, and one of the reasons we did that is because these are really the voices that inspired me, musically. If you go through a list of some of my favorite artists, these guys are at the top.”

Chris says that the inspiration for the release was about finding a way to offer something special to his fans. “I love these songs and the men who originally sang them. These are all songs I might play in my live set at one of my shows on any given night, and this project allows me to share with fans some of the musical voices that helped make me the man I am today.”

Chris will be performing on the Grand Ole Opry tonight and then will be back on the road opening Alan Jackson’s Freight Train Tour, with the final three dates this weekend as the tour rolls into University Park, Pa., on Friday; Charleston, W.Va., on Saturday; and Lexington, Ky., this Sunday (May 23). This summer, Chris will join Rascal Flatts, from June 25 through September 19, opening the first leg of their JC Penney Presents Rascal Flatts Nothing Like This Tour.
