Exclusive: Billy Ray Does Not Regret GQ Interview

Star clarifies comments made on CNN.

During a chat with CNN’s Piers Morgan last week, Billy Ray Cyrus said that giving an interview to GQ magazine during a particularly trying period in his life last December was “a big mistake." Still, he tells CountryWeekly.com exclusively that he doesn’t regret opening up about his concerns for daughter Miley at the time.

“I don’t know what would have happened had I not given that interview. I know that the things that I spoke about, that I was extremely worried about, are better now,” he says now of the GQ feature in which he lashed out at Disney and Miley's handlers, among others. “I felt like something bad was going to happen, and trust me, I’d much rather it happen to me than to Miley. And if I had to get up and get spanked [by the media] for speaking about something that concerned me as a father . . . I’d rather it happen to me than have to look at the result of something else happening that perhaps could have been far worse.”
