Eric Church Says He Comes From Bar-Fighting Relatives

OK, you know about one of Eric’s grandfathers, nicknamed Chief, a police chief for 28 years.

But then there’s the other side of the family, the Stillwells.

“They were rough and did a lot of fighting—drunk fighting,” Eric recently told Playboy magazine.

“The Stillwells were big, like six-foot-six and six-foot-seven. They would get drunk and beat up everybody in a bar.”

The only person who could handle them: Chief.

“He’d beat up the Stillwells, get them in cuffs, put them in jail, and when they sobered up, he’d let them go. So yeah, I am from a long line of sinners.”

And, to borrow a Paul Harvey phrase, now you know the rest of the story.

As previously reported by Country Weekly, Eric will be among the headliners at this October's Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, Texas.
