Eric Church Got Stuck Under His Own Stage

Country star on his first headliner tour gets stuck in Missouri—and he didn't even have a drink in his hand.

Eric Church is on his first arena-filling headliner tour, complete with some production to snazz up the show.

And with more production comes more things that can go wrong. And that's what happened on his second show, in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Eric tells ABC News Radio that he starts the show by killing the lights and then coming up from underneath the stage in the dark. Small problem: The steps were loaded in backward. So the lights get cut, but no Eric, because he can't get up onto the stage.

"So, I had to actually crawl under the stage with my guitar," he said. "It ended up being about seven minutes underneath the stage when people are sitting out there in the dark.

"The best part of the whole thing," he continued, "is the radio communication went down, so nobody knew. They didn't know what was going on. They just knew I wasn't coming up.

"About seven minutes later, I got claustrophobic under there. I finally said, 'I'm just going.' I'm walking up. Tell 'em to roll it. It was one of those things, you know. Hopefully it doesn't happen anymore."
