Ed Sheeran Says Taylor Swift’s MTV Swear Word Didn’t Concern Her Ex

Instead, she uttered the phrase about something her buddy Selena Gomez told her.

Taylor Swift never meant to diss her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles when she mouthed “Shut the f--- up!” while he was onstage at last week’s (Aug. 15) MTV Video Music Awards, her touring buddy Ed Sheeran says.

Yes, Harry and his band, One Direction, were onstage, and yes, Taylor told Selena what she told Selena. But those two facts had nothing to do with each other, Ed told his fans during a Q&A with him.

Taylor was simply reacting to what her pop BFF Selena Gomez told her moments before. Selena had predicted that Miley Cyrus was going to beat Selena out for Best Pop Video.

“Selena said to her, ‘I think Miley’s gonna win the award,’” Ed explained. And now, the entire world knows what Taylor’s reaction was.

BTW, Taylor was right: Selena, in fact, won that award, for her video for “Come and Get It.”
