Dolly Parton Announces New Album, Tour and More Movies
Dolly Parton played off her past duet hit “Making Plans” as she announced some exciting new events for this year at a press conference in Nashville, Monday morning (March 7). Among the many items on her list, Dolly will embark on a major tour, release a new album and have a slate of more made-for-TV movies.
The tour, kicking off this summer, will bring Dolly to more than 60 cities in the U.S. and Canada. “I’m going to go on an extensive tour,” Dolly revealed to members of the media, “starting in June and going until about December. It’s been about 25 years since I’ve toured in Canada. So, we’re excited about that.”
Dolly was also excited about her new album release, a double CD set titled Pure & Simple With Dolly’s Biggest Hits. “And I said biggest hits,” Dolly quipped in a mock clarification, drawing laughs throughout the room. The album will feature new material along with a compilation of some of Dolly’s best-loved classics.
Dolly is riding a new crest of popularity these days after the success of her made-for-television movie Coat of Many Colors, which was watched by more than 15 million viewers and scored the highest rating for a network TV film in more than three years. “We were so happy about that,” Dolly noted. “It got really great ratings.” Three more films based on her songs are being planned, Dolly added. “The next one is ’Jolene’ and the third is going to be based on ’The Seeker.’ We haven’t decided on the fourth one yet.”
