The musical will be mounted at New York City’s Marquis Theatre, and will officially open April 23, 2009, after a fall tryout at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block and Megan Hilty will star in the roles played in the film by Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly, respectively. Dolly wrote 20 new songs for the musical, including one that became the title cut of her latest album, Backwoods Barbie.
