D’oh! LBT Gets a Do-Over With Music/Fashion Mogul

Russell Simmons was on the phone with his wife, but Kimberly thought he was talking to her.

Really cool thing: Little Big Town will perform at a star-studded fundraiser in New York next month (Oct. 23).

Really funny thing: Music/fashion mogul Russell Simmons, co-founder of hip-hop label Def Jam, is one of the honorees—and LBT's last encounter was a little bit awkward.

Turns out the foursome was in the same elevator with Russell a while back, and Russell was talking to his wife through his Bluetooth.

But Kimberly Schlapman started answering Russell, and then added, “Oh, I'm sorry. Were you talking to me?”

“And he was like, ‘No, shhhh. And my wife will not like that,’” Karen Fairchild told reporters recently.

Karen added that she’s looking forward to seeing Russell at the event for T.J. Martell Foundation, which helps folks with life-threatening illnesses.

“I can’t wait to tell him that story in person,” Karen said. “He was very funny and very charming, but I guess Kimberly’s Southern voice pierced right through the Bluetooth.”
