Did John Mayer Write a Response Song to Taylor Swift’s “Dear John”?
Speculation is that the pop star’s new single, “Paper Doll,” is a direct response to a song Taylor wrote after they broke up.
OK, Taylor Swift has never even said that her song “Dear John” was aimed at pop star John Mayer after he and she broke up.
But that sure is how John took it, complaining to Rolling Stone magazine that the song “humiliated me.”
“How presumptuous!” Taylor fired back in Glamour magazine.
And now, a whole new round of speculation has been launched over John's new single, “Paper Doll,” with many folks saying that song is an answer to “Dear John.” Why?
- John sings, Here's a dress of gold and blue / Sure was fun being good to you. In “Dear John,” Taylor refers to herself as the girl in the dress.
- John sings, You’re like 22 girls in one / And none of them know what they're running from. Taylor has a song called “22,” and in “Dear John,” she sings, I’ll look back and regret how I ignored when they said run as fas as you can.
Here's the “Paper Doll” lyric video. What do you think?
