“Dancing With The Stars”: Kellie Pickler Brings Home the Win
Kellie Pickler became the first country singer in 16 seasons of Dancing With The Stars to take home the championship mirror ball trophy.
"Us?" she exclaimed when her name was announced as winner Tuesday night (May 21).
Yes, her pro dancing partner Derek Hough nodded.
"AHHHHH!" Kellie responded, jumping onto Derek. "This is amazing!"
Kellie finished higher than any of the other four (and a half) previous country singers who have appeared on the show.
Wynonna finished in 11th place this season and Chuck Wicks finished sixth when he danced with then-girlfriend Julianne Hough on season eight.
Sara Evans also finished sixth when she was on season three, and Billy Ray Cyrus finished in fifth place the very next year.
Marie Osmond is the half—she's a little bit country, you know. She finished in third place on season five.
And Kellie beat them all, looking very much like a professional dancer almost from the start of the season. Her super-size freestyle dance Monday night (May 20) proved so powerful that it drove judge Carrie Ann Inaba to tears—and fans voted via Twitter to have her repeat that dance the very next night.
And much of the credit has to be given to her partner, Derek.
"You guys are like wonder twins," Carrie Ann said.
Bruno Tonioli agreed: "It's like watching siblings."
