American Idol season-nine runner-up Crystal Bowersox is headed for the Broadway stage this summer to appear in the musical Always . . . Patsy Cline.

Crystal will make her Broadway debut in the title role, which will require her to sing some of Patsy's greatest hits, such as "Crazy," "Walkin' After Midnight" and "I Fall to Pieces." Appearing opposite her as Patsy's biggest fan, Louise Seger, will be actress Annette O'Toole (Smallville, Nash Bridges) in her Broadway debut.

The story follows Patsy and Louise's friendship as they exchange handwritten letters until Patsy's death. Performances are reported to begin in July and the show will officially open to the public in August.

Bowersox has stayed busy since her appearance on Idol. She released her debut album, Farmer's Daughter, in 2010, and her new album, All That for This, came out March 26.
