Colbie Caillat Goes Country?

When you have a voice like Colbie Caillat, everyone wants you on their album, but for her new holiday project, Christmas in the Sand, Colbie turned the tables, enlisting special guest Brad Paisley to join her in the studio.

"I had recorded 'Merry Christmas, Baby' with more of a country style to it because we did Bruce Springsteen's version, which had more of a blues, rock, country vibe," she explains. Then her manager surprised her. "He said, 'You know, Brad Paisley is under our management. Maybe we could ask if he wants to sing and play guitar on the song,'" she recalls. And she didn't hesitate for a moment to agree to the idea.

Colbie is set to perform the holiday chestnut on ABC's upcoming CMA Country Christmas special, but unfortunately won't be joined by Brad. "He is unable to perform with me, so I'm a little bummed about that, but I'm so honored that I get to do two songs at this amazing event," says Colbie, who will also perform the album's title track.

And while Colbie says she has no plans to record a country project, she does sing the cut "I'm All About You" with Jerrod Niemann on his new album, Free the Music.

She is also looking for a home in Music City. “I love Nashville,” she exclaims. “I have so many friends there that I write songs with, and producers. It's a place I'm going to call a second home.”

The 12-song Christmas in the Sand is available now on iTunes. A deluxe 15-song version is available now at Target.
