Cassadee Pope to Make Her Grand Ole Opry Debut
“People don’t realize that country music is my background and that’s what I sang as a kid,” says The Voice winner.
Yes, Cassadee Pope came onto Team Blake on The Voice last year as a pop singer.
But she almost immediately started singing country on the show. And since winning in December, Cassadee has signed a country deal, opened for Rascal Flatts and booked what she’s calling “a huge milestone” gig for Tuesday night (July 16).
Back in Nashville. Tomorrow night marks a huge milestone in my career. Can't wait to take the @Opry stage!! Who's coming out to the show?— Cassadee Pope (@CassadeePope) July 16, 2013
The Opry performance is particularly big for Cassadee because she listened to the Opry show when she was little.
“People don’t realize that country music is my background and that’s what I sang as a kid,” she told The Tennessean newspaper.
“I went through my rock phase, but now I’m back in a place where I feel the roots coming back from country music. I’m just infusing all of them into one. The Opry has always been something I wanted to do and as a kid I covered all the artists that sang on the Opry stage.”
Cassadee’s debut country album comes out in the fall, and the video for her single “Wasting All These Tears” premieres tomorrow (July 17).
