Carrie Underwood Talks Role in Soul Surfer
Carrie Underwood may be a veteran of the small-screen after winning over television viewers on American Idol, making numerous TV awards-show performances and appearing on How I Met Your Mother, but now she's gearing up for her first big-screen movie role in the inspirational biopic Soul Surfer, which will be released April 8.
Carrie portrays Sarah Hill, a youth counselor who inspired and befriended surfer Bethany Hamilton (played by AnnaSophia Robb) after she lost her arm in a shark attack in 2003. While it would be nerve-racking for most rising actresses to share the screen with film veterans such as Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid, the 28-year-old singer says she was most anxious about accurately portraying Sarah, who was a pillar of strength for the Hamilton family.
"I could never be the real Sarah Hill, but hopefully for the purposes of this movie it will make sense. You can see how much she means to this family, being a rock for the Hamiltons and her being a rock to Bethany and just the strength that she has to lead the family through this," Carrie says of Sarah to MTV.
