BUSY GRETCHEN SAYS IT LOUD AND PROUD

How busy is Gretchen Wilson? "Three or four months ago, no one knew who I was," Gretchen told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "Now I have to schedule my bathroom breaks." Gretchen's been singing "Redneck Woman" all over this country for the past few months. She reasons it's succeeded because the song has the same kind of defiant attitude that's recently worked for men in country music. "Males have been dominating country since 9/11--9/11 really put everyone in this country in a horrible mood for so long," says Gretchen. "We cried for so long. Since then, guys have been coming out with proud and positive songs. Redneck is not just about being a redneck. It's about being proud of what you have--it's a positive, strong female song. It sounds like something a guy would say and a girl wouldn't."
