Beth Brinker is following Willie Nelson’s Country Throwdown tour for CountryWeekly.com.
Here’s her latest report.

The next days off in Raleigh were a fun break from the road – we got to explore downtown and even see Austin Lucas play a gig. The unexpected addition to the Raleigh adventure was none other than singer Josh Groban, who is without a doubt one of the most hilarious humans I have ever met.

Then we were off to Roanoke Rapids, N.C. to be part of the Rapids Jam! Brantley Gilbert gave three little fans a memory they won’t soon forget! After meeting them, he let them watch the show from the stage!

Later that night, Erin Enderlin, Caitlyn Smith, Dani Flowers and I ventured to the carnival side of things while Willie sang in the background, all in search of a fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It was delicious!

South Carolina was a fun stop for Lee Brice—I met his sweet momma and she was as adorable and southern as you would imagine.

The Knoxville, Tenn., show was different because we were inside that day, set up in the Civic Center that had the coolest backstage area, with giant theater props and a yellow brick road on the ground. We think a friendly ghost probably haunts that place.

Our next stop was a magical place . . . most artists agreed that they had waited to play this venue their whole lives—The Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver! Beautiful is an understatement. While many of the artists have special memories from their show, I will fondly think back to Red Rocks as the place where we had a dance party to “Billy Jean” on the stage. Bet you didn’t know Lee Brice and Randy Houser moved like that? Then we sat in the bleachers and took a photo of the entire crew, like we were about to graduate high school.

There was also a special Throwdown Alum that stopped by Mr. Tumbleweed himself—Troy Olsen! We explored the halls of the famous backstage Red Rocks and even signed our names in the tunnel with thousands of other signatures. What a day!

We were excited to be in the mountains, but couldn’t wait to head to California! Del Mar was particularly awesome because it was part of a fair, and the beach was a short walk away! While some folks were riding elephants and some were eating chocolate covered bacon (seriously!) I found myself in the back of a stranger’s pickup truck with Drake White, Brent Cobb and Caitlyn Smith. Like hippies, we were heading to the beach with a guitar, trying to beat the sunset.

It was so beautiful when we got there, we didn’t want to leave! We recorded some beautiful videos of them singing on the beach. Stay tuned for those and more adventures from California!
