Brad and Carrie Host All-Star Extravaganza

The Country Music Association Awards are just around the corner. You can see all your favorite country stars in one night on Thursday (Nov. 1) during the live broadcast of The 46th Annual CMA Awards.

Scheduled to appear:

Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood host and perform at the star-studded event, which also includes appearances from Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Kelly Clarkson, Eli Young Band, Brantley Gilbert, Vince Gill, Hunter Hayes, Faith Hill, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift, The Band Perry, Keith Urban and Zac Brown Band.

We at Country Weekly have made a few predictions of our own. Check them out and see if you agree.

Entertainer of the Year

  • Jason Aldean
  • Kenny Chesney
  • Brad Paisley
  • Blake Shelton
  • Taylor Swift

CW PREDICTS: Taylor Swift A portion of the award criteria suggests that public acceptance and “overall contribution to the country music image” should be considered for winners in this category, the big prize of the evening. If you decipher that to mean expanding the country music audience, then Taylor is the clear front-runner. Her Speak Now World Tour was literally that, a global concert series that played Europe, Asia and throughout the U.S. There’s plenty of talk about Kenny reclaiming the title, but only Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson have managed to win after a period of several years between victories. Kenny’s last title came in 2008.

Female Vocalist of the Year

  • Kelly Clarkson
  • Miranda Lambert
  • Martina McBride
  • Taylor Swift
  • Carrie Underwood

CW PREDICTS: Carrie Underwood
No one—absolutely no one—is singing the way Carrie is these days. Bolstered by the vocal acrobatics of Blown Away and a magnificent tour, the three-time Female Vocalist of the Year will notch No. 4, robbing Miranda of three-peating.

Male Vocalist of the Year

  • Jason Aldean
  • Luke Bryan
  • Eric Church
  • Blake Shelton
  • Keith Urban

CW PREDICTS: Blake Shelton
Blake only continues to improve as a singer, best evidenced by his emotional rendition of “Over.” His national exposure as a popular mentor on The Voice certainly enhances his opportunity to repeat in this category.

Vocal Group of the Year

  • Eli Young Band
  • Lady Antebellum
  • Little Big Town
  • The Band Perry
  • Zac Brown Band

CW PREDICTS: Lady Antebellum
This might be the hardest-fought category of the night. Despite career years for Little Big Town and The Band Perry, Lady Antebellum still has more of the across-the-board appeal necessary to win. Plus, they’ve successfully taken their music across the globe, raising the profile of country music.

Vocal Duo of the Year

  • Big & Rich
  • Love and Theft
  • Sugarland
  • The Civil Wars
  • Thompson Square

CW PREDICTS: Thompson Square
Since 2007, Sugarland has had a stranglehold on this category. But with no new music of late and a hiatus on the horizon, their reign may be coming to an end. Keifer and Shawna work hard, put on engaging shows and release solid music---all solid reasons that Thompson Square is poised to win.

Watch the CMA Awards Thursday at 8 p.m. (ET) on ABC to find out who wins and to see how bad our predictions turned out to be.
