Blake to the Rescue

Blake Shelton helped police in Ada, Okla., apprehend a would-be burglar on July 9 after responding to a frantic call from a relative.

Blake, a native of Ada, was in a nearby city visiting his mother, Dorothy Shackleford. According to Shackleford, the incident began when she received a late-night call from her brother Dempsey Byrd about an intoxicated man on his premises. She and Blake went over immediately to help. “Blake knocked on the door and the man sort of stumbled over and opened it,” reports Dorothy. Blake told the man to step out on the porch while his mother ran inside to check on her brother, who was no longer in the house. “He had gone over to the house next door and called us,” she recalls. “That’s when we called the police and they came and took the man into custody.” The suspect, James Robert Gastineau, was later charged with first-degree burglary and public intoxication.
