Billy Currington is no snow bunny. Most winters he can be found escaping the cold for warmer climates, like surfing in Hawaii. This winter, however, he kicks off his Summer Forever headlining tour, hoping to bring some warmth to cities throughout the U.S. with opener Kelsea Ballerini.

Nash Country Weekly spoke with the Georgia native as he was enjoying the warm weather at his home near Savannah, Ga. “We’re up underneath the sunshine,” he says cheerfully over the phone. “Thankfully, it’s a pretty warm day. We get quite a bit of warm days. It don’t stay cold long.”

Billy will kick off his Summer Forever Tour on Feb. 19 in San Antonio. The tour runs through more than 20 cities and Billy promises it will be a fun time.

“We start pretty soon with Kelsea Ballerini. She’s a new artist and seems to be really on fire. Between the both of us I think we’ll bring the right crowd and the right amount of people and the right vibe for a really good time,” he says. “I’ve heard her music and it’s happy and fun and people seem to be taking to it. I think we have plenty of songs that we’ve put out over the years where people can find a couple of them to dance to or sing to or cure their heartbreak to. All in all, it’s going to be a really happy tour.”

The “happy” tour will likely include many of Billy’s staples like “Good Directions,” “People Are Crazy,” “That’s How Country Boys Roll” and more recent hits “Hey Girl,” “We Are Tonight” and “Don’t It,” which are bound to get fans up and dancing.

While Billy admits that it’s been a while since he’s toured in the winter, he’s ready for the challenge that the colder weather will bring to life on the road.

“To be honest, the past three to four years I spent most of my winters in Hawaii. This will be the one that I haven’t spent the whole winter there in quite a few years,” he reflects. “I’ve been in Canada in February. It gets very tough. But it seems like the coldest places are the places to go play in the winter and those are the most successful. I guess people just want to get out of the house and go do something for a couple of hours. A concert always seems to be the thing to do. I really enjoy my years of doing that.”

Billy says he’s been keeping in shape for his time on the road and onstage by getting his exercise in on the beach during his downtime over the holidays. He adds that the fact that he knows he’s “about to be in a million pictures” naturally makes him “tighten it back up.”

“I live right next to a beach so I get to go out there and run on the beach a lot. That’s something I really, really love. I’m already rockin’,” he says with a laugh.

Billy’s Summer Forever headlining tour begins next month and runs through April. Complete dates below.
