The superstar concert pairing of the summer, Alan Jackson with Brooks & Dunn, kicked off Thursday night, May 10, in Virginia Beach, Va.

The tour partnership makes perfect sense, as Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn give partial credit to Alan for their career. “In a way, Alan’s the reason we’re a duo,” Kix tells Neil Haislop’s Nashville IQ. Tim DuBois, the former head of Arista Nashville, was looking for a duo, as he had Alan on board as a solo male act. “We said, ‘We don’t do duos,’ and he goes, ‘Well, I’ve already got a boy singer. So, you’ve got to hook up for a minute.’ And 15 years later, we’re still riding the bus.” The tour plays Charlotte, N.C., tonight and moves to Raleigh, N.C., May 12.
