“Grandma” Singer Sued

Elmo Shropshire, half of the duo that performed the holiday classic “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer,” is being sued over a botched deal to sell merchandise from a 2000 animated TV program based on the song. The Fred Rappoport Company says Elmo interfered with its business by sending cease-and-desist letters to companies it had contracted to make merchandise related to the show. The perennial Christmas favorite was recorded in 1979 by Elmo & Patsy, also including Elmo’s then-wife Patsy Trigg.
