Exclusive First Listen: Jo Dee Messina’s New Album, “Me”
Jo Dee Messina took the road less traveled for her new album, Me, financing the project through crowd-funding website Kickstarter instead of the traditional record label means.
The incredibly personal collection, in stores March 18, addresses the hectic demands of motherhood and trying to balance that with a career.
In the song “I’m Not Dead Yet,” she deals with her struggle to keep performing and offers a rallying cry for anybody who’s a little down and out. “I was going through a struggle in trying to get to where I could make music again and release it,” Jo Dee says. “One day, I just started to think, ‘Wait a minute, I’m not dead yet.’ I mean, my goodness, someone gets to be over 30 and it’s like, get out the shovels. Everybody deserves a fighting chance. Part of the first verse of that song says, You’ve shattered my dreams, but you haven’t shattered my faith. I think that’s something people need and want to hear—I’m still here and ready to go.”
Check out that song along with the rest of Me in this exclusive album premiere, and read more with Jo Dee in the March 24 issue of Country Weekly.
