Country’s Sexiest Man of 2010

Originally published in the October 18, 2010 issue of Country Weekly magazine featuring Tim McGraw on the cover.

Country music fans are blessed with many things—not the least of which are the hot guys they get to fawn over in concert, on television and in the pages of Country Weekly. Everyone has their favorite, of course, and isn’t it fun to debate the attributes that make a guy sexy? Is it his eyes, his voice, his faded blue jeans or something just below the belt that holds those jeans up? With that, we’re proud to reveal our picks for Country’s Sexiest Men for 2010.

10 Luke Bryan

As Luke sings on his 2008 hit “Country Man,” a man with big strong arms always makes women’s hearts beat a little faster. When women aren’t swooning over Georgia boy Luke’s pearly-white smile or his bedroom eyes, they’re most likely to notice his modesty and charming Southern drawl. But this newcomer and Country Music Association New Artist of the Year nominee isn’t just a charmer—this is the funnyman who jumped into a hotel pool to celebrate his Academy of Country Music Top New Artist win earlier this year. Of being named one of the sexiest men in country music, Luke says with a laugh, “Hopefully I can maintain the sexiness for a few more years.”

9 Darius Rucker

Older guys get another nod with 44-year-old Darius, who first came to national attention as the gruff-voiced lead singer for rock band Hootie & the Blowfish. Now, Darius has taken that same edgy and sultry voice to country music, where he’s scored No. 1 hits such as “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” and “It Won’t Be Like This for Long.” He’s a devoted family man who included his children in the video for “It Won’t Be Like This for Long,” noting that it was one of the most emotional moments of his life.

8 George Strait

George was No. 4 on the 2009 list, and is proving, at age 58, that he still has plenty of sex appeal. Women swoon over his shy, quiet smile and his smooth voice, which just seems to naturally wrap its way around a song. At home in Texas, he’s a rugged rancher who loves getting down to hard work and tending to his horses. That winning combination has made George a yearly favorite on the list of Country’s Sexiest Men.

7 Charles Kelley

The lead male vocalist of Lady Antebellum cuts a dapper figure in his well-fitted suits and trim beard. “I think he has an attractive look,” points out Music Row stylist Paula Turner. “He’s a little more well-groomed.” Plus, Charles possesses the rare voice that can handle gritty, sexy rockers or soft, slow ballads.

6 Chuck Wicks

The handsome singer/songwriter also made our other sexy-guy list in 2010, the fan-voted Country’s Hottest Bachelors, coming in at the No. 4 spot. And it looks like Chuck is still up for grabs, so to speak. “I’m looking for someone who is just down-home and relaxed,” he says. “I’m a farm kid from Delaware, after all.” So, all you down-home farm gals out there, take special note.

5 Blake Shelton

It’s practically a universal truth: One of the most appealing traits in a man is humor. Well, 6-foot-5-inch Blake’s got that in spades, and the confidence not to care what anyone thinks (his fans included). His sarcastic barbs regularly have thousands of his Twitter followers in stitches. Add to that his good-ol’-boy demeanor, well-worn flannel shirts, faded jeans and piercing blue eyes, and you’ve got yourself one sexy guy.

4 Gary Allan

The appeal of the rugged, sexy bad boy is eternal, and with his devil-may-care aura and the requisite tattoos (this was the guy who did an interview while getting inked), Gary is proudly country music’s dark horse. He’s also strong, caring for his children after the death of his wife in 2004. To top it off, this bad boy croons some California-cool tunes, too. (Gary was also named Country Weekly’s Hottest Bachelor earlier this year.)

3 Dierks Bentley

Dierks makes the 2010 list based on a number of “hot” factors, including his irresistible curly hair and romantic way with songs such as “Come a Little Closer” and “I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes.” And now, the former self-proclaimed “modern-day drifter” has become a devoted family man to wife Cassidy and daughter Evie, with a new arrival expected right around Christmas. “I’m so lucky that Cass totally supports me,” Dierks says. “Without that I couldn’t do it.”

2 Keith Urban

He’s a sweet-talking axe slinger with a razor-sharp wit and an even sweeter Aussie accent. Onstage, few performers match the intensity that Keith displays in concert with his confident guitar-guy swagger and virtuoso licks. Even hotter is the fact that underneath his model looks, he’s modest and vulnerable enough to wear his heart on his sleeve. What’s more, he regularly shows support for various charitable causes, including his We’re All for the Hall event, which raises money for the Country
Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

1 Tim McGraw

Women have always gone head over heels for Tim’s potent combination of rugged cowboy attitude and sensitive, family-man sweetness. Nowhere is Tim more sexy, women will gladly tell you, than when he’s onstage with wife Faith Hill, and the two are gently singing to each other on hit duets such as “It’s Your Love” and “Just to Hear You Say That You Love Me.” Faith reveals that her man definitely has a romantic side. “When I need a pick-me-up, he just hugs me,” she once said. “He gives the best hugs in the world.” Tim also sports his own line of fragrances, further highlighting his sex appeal.
