April 5, 2010 – Alan Jackson: All in the Family

Alan Jackson talks about his new album, 30 years of marriage, how he feels about his empty nest and more in this exclusive cover story. Alan tells Country Weekly that his latest album, Freight Train, includes several songs that reflect his family life, including “After 17” and “The Best Keep Getting Better.”

He wrote “After 17” when his oldest daughter, Mattie, left home for college. Alan says, “That’s kind of where I’m at in that part of my life. ‘The Best Keeps Getting Better’ just kind of came out and it sounded like me and [Alan’s wife] Denise.” Alan also reveals that he’s feeling that empty-nest syndrome as his two youngest daughters prepare for college.

“Once the girls are gone, we’re probably going to end up wanting to live in Florida at least part of the year,” he says. “We’re just thinking into the future and I think we’re doing the right thing for us.” And in a special section, Alan shares his six favorite songs of his career.
