Call Me Crazy

Lee Ann has bounced between pop sheen and traditional twang in recent years, but her outstanding new album wisely splits the difference. Call Me Crazy sacrifices the stylistic unity of 2005’s There’s More Where That Came From or 2002’s Something Worth Leaving Behind in favor of an approach that simply tailors the production and arrangements to the songs and their singer as needed. Lee Ann winningly tackles hooky pop-country gems like “I Found It in You” and more eccentric fare like Natalie Hemby and Daniel Tashian’s “The Bees” with equal flair. That’s not crazy—it’s cool.
