Those who heard a distinctive country influence on superstar rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival were proven correct when, a year after the group’s breakup, leader John Fogerty released an album of country covers under the Blue Ridge Rangers moniker. Back then, John was the Blue Ridge Rangers—he played all the instruments himself—but on this belated follow-up he’s joined by a crackerjack band of studio pros. The idea remains the same: to have a blast tearing into a batch of great old country songs. Certainly, the man at the center of the fray sounds like he can barely contain his joy as he leads his new Blue Ridge Rangers into action.
