Perfectly Clear

Adventurous artists have been chipping away at the wall between country and pop for so long that it isn’t keeping anyone from checking out the other side of the divide anymore. Veteran pop songstress Jewel, for instance, has been knocking bricks out of that wall for some time—and with Perfectly Clear she at last takes up residence firmly in country territory. The restrictions of the genre help to keep her more self-indulgent impulses in check, while she brings a singer/songwriter’s sense of freedom to a format that could use some more of it.
