Jennifer Hanson: Thankful

Jennifer Hanson

Thankful

∗ ∗ ∗ ½

Adventurous artists have been chipping away at the wall between country and pop for so long that it isn’t keeping anyone from checking out the other side of the divide anymore. Jennifer Hanson has always been considered country, but Thankful is stylistically similar enough to the adult-alternative pop of Sheryl Crow and KT Tunstall to make sorting out the genre distinctions a nitpicky (and finally pointless) parlor game. Better to enjoy the smart, sophisticated songwriting offered here and not worry too much about which side of the wall it’s coming from.
