Jennifer Hanson’s Baked Macaroni and Cheese

A hearty side dish from Jennifer, whose album Joyride will be released in 2008, that's a family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 box elbow macaroni
  • 1 block sharp cheddar, preferably Cracker Barrel Extra Sharp
  • 1 stick salted real butter
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 2% milk

Preparation

  1. Boil macaroni to tender but not mushy—al dente.
  2. Shred cheese
  3. Cover bottom of glass baking dish with pats of butter.
  4. Layer macaroni, cheese, butter and salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Repeat layering until near top of pan. Cover with cheese. Add milk, covering up to ¾ of the mixture.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes at 350°.
For an even richer, creamier texture and taste, use buttermilk instead of 2% milk.
