Gretchen Gets Her GED

Gretchen Wilson proudly received her GED certificate at a ceremony at the First Baptist Church in Lebanon, Tenn., May 15.

Gretchen, who dropped out of school in the ninth grade, passed her GED exam in April and studied for the test during the recording of her fourth album. She recently commented that she wanted to receive her GED to set an example for her daughter, Grace. Charlie Daniels delivered the commencement speech and praised Gretchen before the ceremony. “I’m proud of her because she went through the turmoil of getting the diploma at this busy time of her life,” Charlie told Nashville’s daily newspaper The Tennessean. “It’s a sign of character to do something because you want to, not because you have to.” The June 30 issue of Country Weekly, on sale June 16, will have more on Gretchen’s special day.
