WHO'S NEW: MIKE RODGERS

DUAL DESTINIES
"I grew up in Little Rock,
Arkansas. I started boxing
when I was 5 years old,
and started pursuing music
when I was about 17. My
dad was in the Golden
Gloves Halls of Fame, and
my great-granduncle was
Jimmie Rodgers, who's in
the Country Music Hall of
Fame. I dreamed of being a
professional boxer and I
dreamed of being an entertainer,
and I made them
both happen. I've been real
fortunate that way."
"THE HONKYTONK HITMAN"
"I came to live in
Nashville in '97. I was
living in my car, and they
offered me 200 bucks to
fight this guy. I stepped
into the ring wearing a
cowboy hat, and somebody
yelled, 'Who are you
supposed to be, the
"Honkytonk Hitman"?' I
earned that nickname real
quick - the other guy fell
like a tree. Then people
started coming out to
my shows!"
HANGING UP HIS GLOVES
"It's a whole lot easier
going out there singing for
money than it is getting beat
up for it!"
Mike Rodgers' album,
Honkytonk Hitman, is on
sale now.
